Happy May Day everyone! Today was the "big day" in the Pennington household, as Mike was officially sworn in by Sheriff Neil Williamson. Keith, Noah and I were on hand, as were many of his friends within the department. He looked smart in his ugly, brown uniform! I was asked to pin his new Sergeant's badge on him, and the Sheriff and #2 man in charge- Tony Sacco- pinned his stripes on him. After some kind remarks about Mike's dedication and 20 years of service to the department, we celebrated with cake (made by the Sheriff's secretary "Bad" Betty England!)
The celebrating will continue through the weekend- lunch today with friends, a little bit of fun Saturday night at the Stadium, brunch on Sunday and even a dinner next Friday! Everyone is very proud of him, and I think he's pretty proud of himself. Of course now he's looking toward promotion to Lieutenant, but he has to work a year before he can even take the exam for Lt. So that's a little way off.
As for me, well, it's hell week here - oops I mean Prom week here at RHS so all of my time is being consumed with last minute details. I have resigned, however, for next year effective at 11:01 p.m. Saturday night! Yesterday, Mom joined me for Lobby Day with the IEA (IL Educ. Assoc.) at the state house. There were about 1000 educators from across the state who marched on the capitol and spoke with legislators about education funding reform, receiving our final two state aid payments, retirement issues and more. The world of politics is a very interesting one! I wonder how anything ever gets done! I guess it's like they say, "you never want to know how laws and sausage are made!"
As always, I'd love to hear from you so be sure leave a comment for us.
Much love- the P's
